A day in Helen

Summer is in, so is getting tanned. So why not get scorched in style with German beer in hand. Early April morning when spring was in full bloom we drove up with our friends cum neighbor The Sinha couple up to Helen.
The drive was not hectic since the view along start getting  interesting as you leave the city life costing us barely an hour to reach. Lush green meadows, cattle grazing and farmers all set to work in the budding season did surely brought a change to our sight.
Nested in the Blue Ridge Mountain, Helen is one of the most beautiful sections of Northeast Georgia with Chattahoochee River flowing gently through Helen is a place to fall in love at first sight._DSC0492

Making a quick stop at Hofer's Bakery which specializes in German rolls and bread we grab our breakfast and brewing coffee.
Nothing makes a day without a good breakfast coupled with the sights of windmill and lush green outside.

My plate looks good for the day!

A re-creation of a Bavarian Alpine village, we made a brisk walk on the cobblestone streets . And at every steps we were only appalled at the beautiful construction giving us a feel of entering fairy tale land. It remind me more of Carmel back in California with numerous shops and dining options ranging from traditional German fare to traditional Southern.

Scenes from around the market

This glassblowing shop really took my attention and i wish i could click more pics in and around. It was more fascinating to watch the lady creating glass figurines, cake tops and jewelries.

Next we came upon the Chattahoochee river and major activities goes around from sightings the mountain and variety of natural attractions, camping, tubing down the Chattahoochee River or dinning under the bridge and over the river at the trolls tavern. If you are lucky and staying nearby you can attend the Oktoberfest, a call for festive celebration and Helen’s biggest gathering event which includes German music, food, drinks and dancing, waltzes, polkas and the chicken dance . This Bavarian town definitely has something for everyone.

While me and Ani somehow managed to cross the current and rocks it was more fun to see Mr. Sinha making his trembling move. This could have been his child act being the tallest of us all.
I was glad to know in this group somebody got hydrophobia too, including me!

Everybody had their piece of adventure!_DSC0550.JPG

Crossing the other side we came to another section of markets with Bavarian styled inn. Though we had no stay plan for the night i will recommend my friends to stay here in the hub of Helen.
