A walk in Union Square

15439793_10211425651419258_414562337715130944_nLast weekend when the sun was in total mood and Anindya had his last conference in Yerba Vista, I decided to accompany him along. We took our morning Bart from Walnut Creek, the fastest and cheapest mode to get to SF (when you hate parking your car).
Starting from Powells we made way to Howards street and while Anindya attended to his conference in Yerba park i took a quick glimpse of the nearby attractions.

The sunshine on St. Patrick's Church cannot be avoided when you are in this crowded mass. I could not avoid either; a long time since i paid a visit to any religious place.

It was unbelievable that standing in the most crowded Union square of SF the inside of the church was just quite and pin drop silence.
12034453_10207806047651426_6996395408545622097_oMy cell phone buzzed in a distorted noise that messed up my concentration in taking the pic of the candles. The haziness in the above click shows it all.  Anindya got free or i guess the conference was over. I rush back to where we see off last time and there he was at the stairways of the park scrolling down the list of Indian restaurants in Yelp.
My man is hungry already.
He chose the Little Delhi located a few walk away at Eddy street. Off we wnt scurrying to land our temple in hope to get the food we crave. I began with my morning tea while Anindya had his capital style lemonade, lemon, sugar and salt along with assorted tandoori platter.

And when we were happily done we had a surprise. The outside adjacent wall of the restaurant wall was all painted in shades of music, an opera scene!

The hunger didn't get us notice this when we entered the restaurant.

We walked past the cable car giving us an amazing view of the infinite Que where people could not wait for their next ride. Everyone suddenly seem so kiddish hopping into the car and get themselves seated.

SAN FRANCISCO CABLE CAR RIDE

Start the day with a ride on one of San Francisco’s iconic cable cars. On any given day, you’ll find long lines of people waiting for a ride. There are 3 cable car lines in the city:
  • Powell-Mason: Takes you from Union Square to Fisherman’s Wharf. Due to the route, it’s very popular among tourists. You can use this ride to stop in the Financial District and Chinatown
  • Powell-Hyde: By far, the most scenic of the three routes. The ride takes you past charming houses, some seriously steep hills and you’ll even pass near the crooked part of Lombard Street
  • California: It’s an east to west line in contrast to the other two lines which are north to south. This is the least touristy of the lines and where the queue is usually shortest. The terrain is quite steep as well which makes for an exhilarating ride. You’ll pass by several tall buildings within the Financial District as well as Chinatown.
  • You can also check out this link for a more detailed description of each of SF’s cable car lines.

Almost dusk and Union square felt like Friday night. All the youth and crowd in party mood, we decided not to retreat home soon. We scrolled down another list through a good pub or club around and picked up three, Benjamin Cooper, Stoneman cove and The View.

This building reminds us of Flatiron in NYC.
The Benjamin as the name sounds cool and historic turned out to be a disaster. It took us five minutes searching the whole street for this pub since there was not a board displaying its name outside. We had to ask people for the location of the pub and when we spot it, it was full of dismay. Crowded, full and jammed.
F..k we went for the second choice.
The stoneman cove was yet another disappointment. We had to rent a cab to reach there. And again there was no whereabout of the pub. No proper navigation on gps and outside of downtown. With no further experiment we skipped to the last choice. Waste of money.
Now here it was our best and most wanted place The View on top of the Marriott's hotel. After being dumped twice this place made our Friday!!

We sat here around for a while and hoped we had a group to split a bottle and hang out whole night. Fortunately we had each other and spend the night giggling, drinking and enjoying the view below and above.
Have a great weekend!!
